Dave Pelz ChipStick Review

April 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have to admit I’m a big fan of Dave Pelz and his books (Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible and Putting Bible) and when I received the ChipStick for Christmas I was truly excited about using it. I’ve only been golfing for a little under a year and I have learned that the short game is one of most important parts of the game that can really help lower your score.

One of the biggest problems I was having with my short game, is chipping. Specifically breaking down of my leading wrist, causing me to top or thin my chips. This is where the ChipStick comes in, to help ingrain the proper chipping motion with instant feedback. What I love about the ChipStick is that it can be used on any of your golf clubs, whether you are right handed or left handed. To use the ChipStick it’s quite easy, just slip the spiral end of the ChipStick down the grip end of your golf club. The short metal rod with green tip, will run along the back of your grip. Now all you have to do is grip your club and setup for a chip shot. If you do the chipping motion correctly the ChipStick will not hit the left side of your body (for a right handed golfer). If done incorrectly, the ChipStick hits your left side of your body giving you instant feedback.

The instructions recommend that you practice your chipping motion with the ChipStick for 5 minutes a night for 3 weeks in front of a mirror and exaggerate your follow through by 20 percent. After you have mastered this motion for 3 weeks, it will be repeatable on the golf course.

I highly recommend the Dave Pelz ChipStick, because its compact, lightweight, fits any club, and provides instant feedback.

The Dave Pelz ChipStick sells for $21.95

    Nice review!

Dave Pelz really does make some seriously good training aids. I’ve used his Putting Track for a while. I feel like my chipping motion is pretty good, so I haven’t picked up a Chip Stick. However, I can absolutely see where it would be of great benefit, especially to someone new to the game. Learning good fundamentals is very difficult, so these types of training aids are invaluable in that process.

Have you found the Chip Stick to be valuable for your own game?

    Double Eagle,

I’ve found the ChipStick to be very helpful in helping me understand the proper chipping motion. I used to think that I was making the chipping motion consistently, until I got the ChipStick/

My wife has just started to learn how to play golf and she’ll start using the the ChipStick when she practices her chips. The Short Game is probably the most under practiced area of the game by beginning golfers.
