Update: Enter to Win 2 Dozen Bridgestone Golf Balls
You’ve probably read about how important it is to get fitted for the right golf clubs, but it probably didn’t cross your mind, that the golf ball you play should match your swing speed. Most golfers, myself included, want a ball that’s going to add more distance, have great greenside spin, and feel. Until now, such features were only found in premium Tour-caliber golf balls aimed at golfer with fast swing speeds of 105 mph or greater. This September Bridgestone Golf released their new Tour B330-RX golf ball, geared for golfers with moderate swing speeds (85-105 mph). I’ve been testing the new Bridgestone Tour B330-RX golf ball for last month and the results were quite amazing.
Off the tee
In my tests I compared the Bridgestone Tour B330-RX to a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX golf ball is a soft multilayer urethane ball featuring a large and soft gradational core for forgiveness and soft feel, mantle layer core for high repulsion and workability, and soft urethane cover with Seamless 330 dimple design. The reason for the softer core is to allow the ball to fully compress, especially for players with slower swing speeds, like myself. This is going to do two things, one it will produce a shot that will launch higher and two, it will reduce the amount of spin off your driver. I produce a lot of sidespin on my dirves, so this feature was more than welcome. During the tests I noticed my drives were launching at an optimal launch angle and traveling much further than with my Pro V1. I was getting a gain of at least 5 – 8 yards on average with my driver using the Tour B330-RX golf ball. The results with my irons was not as significant in terms of extra distance, but the ball was very easy to shape my shots with. The Tour B330-RX golf ball utilizes the same Soft Urethane Seamless dimple design, like its sister products Tour B330-S and Tour B330, so you get pinpoint accuracy with your irons and short game scoring shots.
Short Game
No where on the golf course is feel more important than in the short game. I’m very big on feel when attempting that greenside chip, 5 foot putt, or 30 yard approach shot. I want my golf ball to feel responsive and stop on a dime when it hits the green. The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX does not disappoint when it comes to the short game and scoring shots. The Soft Urethane Seamless dimple design cover gives the Tour B330-RX, that premium enhanced feel in and around the green that I desire. When it came to putting the Tour B330-RX was easy to line up with its pronounced aim line and had a nice feel. When it came to pitch shots and chips, the Bridgestone Tour 330-RX provided the high spin and control that you want from a premium golf ball. My shots would stop on a dime when they hit the green, very similar to what you get with Titleist Pro V1.
Overall the Bridgestone Tour 330-RX is an excellent golf ball that provides Tour-Caliber performance for golfers with slower swing speeds who want long driving distance off the tee with great spin and control in the short game.

I feel that this is a good ball. It plays great around the greens. Although I do not feel such a gain in driving distance. Because of the trajectory of the ball flight I do not get very much roll on my drives. THis actually causes a decrease in distance off the tee.
I used the new B330 RX ball at Pine Valley in October and found it be equal in distance and control of the Pro V 1 and Pro V 1X. It was very cold that week, and I wanted a lower compression ball. It preformed well in the cold weather, stopped just like the Pro V1, and I could not notice any real difference in distance compared to my playing partners that hit the ball about as far as me. I will use this ball in Florida this winter, to give it a test in warmer weather. It was hard to tell too much in the cold wet weather that week, but what the heck it was the number one golf course in the world.
I bought a dozen of the new B330-RX golf balls and played the first sleeve of them. I saw absolutely no difference in them from anyother ball that cost half the price. Just a bunch of hype.
I’v played two round with these balls and they have done everything I have asked of them. I play to a 5 handicap .
I played Pro V1′s before these. One of the biggest differences I noticed right away was how much more durable the B 330 RX were! I played two rounds with the same ball, hitting them out of the sand a least 5 times and they still look brand new!
I think the B 330 Rx is a great ball. I do wish they were $ 10.00 less. With that being said I found the best price from Backyard Golf at $ 39.00 per doz.
The bottom line, the B330 RX is a great golf ball for someone with a swing speed around 100 mph! Have fun out on the links!!
These are an expensive version of the NXT Tour ball. I gound these balls to be hard and less spin than a Pro V1. These balls are ok but waaaaay overpriced. They are essentially the same price as Pro V1 but no where close to Pro V1 performance. I’d save the $15 and go with NXT Tour.
I was in Orlando during the 2009 Golf Show and I had a chance to play few rounds of golf. I did try this new ball from Bridgestone. I realy like it. Specialy around the green. The ball just stop on a dime. I just had some of those printed with my company name on it. With these Logo golf balls I am set for the season.
I also made the switch from the Pro V1x to this ball. Prior to these I played the NXT Tour. The Bridgestone feels slightly softer than the NXT Tour and longer on my drives than the V1x. So, it is a great combo for my 95-99 MPH driver swing speed, plus it checks better than the NXT.
I am 62 years. I have been playing the Pro V1 ball for about 2 years. The golf guy at Dick’s talked me into trying the Bridgestone B330 RX. The reason was because of my relatively low swing speed(91). I found no advantage in distance at all. They don’t seem to stop as quick as the Pro V1 on the greens either. I agree with one of the other comments about the similatity of this ball with the NXT tour ball. That being the case, the NXTs are a better value for the buck. As for me, I’m sticking with the PRO V1.
I played a Pro V1 x in 2007-2008, and have switched to the RX for this year. I don’t play different balls throughout a season. So far half way thru 2009 I am pleasantly surprised with the RX performance and durability. I hit it as far, maybe farther, than the Pro V1x and definitely get more spin and stopping power around the greens. Good ball worth a try. Worth the price and hype? To me it is.
I switched from ProV1 to the Bridgestone B330S one year ago and love it. 15 yards longer and plenty of check around the green (almost the same spin as the ProV1), and great feedback when you flush it. Because my swing speed is only 99mph, (52years old), I really looked forward to the new 330RX. Twice got fitted for it at the Bridgestone ball challenge, they claimed 1o more yards compared to the 330S, do to reduced backspin and better launch angle. Well I tried them for 5 rounds… just not a good ball for me. Feels mushy, and actually lost distance, It was always warm weather so maybe I”ll try again in the winter. For me I am back to the 330S.
Can an expert help me in determining the major difference in performance between the 330S and the RX ? Swing speed 90mph. I cannot tell the difference for the life of me.
Also, I live adjacent to a par 5 landing area of a local golf club, found a Nike Vapor in my back yard . NOT BAD if you need soft, but not close to the above.

Hi Don,
I’m going to have a member of Bridgestone Golf’s R&D Team answer your question about the performance differences between the B330RX and B330S in a post I’m going to be writing about ball fitting. I can tell you from playing both the B330RX and B330S the big difference is in the amount of compression and greenside control. The B330RX is intended for players with slower swing speeds under 100 MPH, so the ball will compress more at slower swing speeds, etc.
Stay tuned for an official response from Bridgestone Golf and my follow up post on golf ball fitting.
Thanks
Rob
I play to a 1 handicap, played the pro v1 when they first came out. I then switched to the B330s and was really surprised with the performance of the ball. So when the 330 rx came out I tried it and really like the ball. For me the B330s and the 330 rx out preforms any other balls out on the market today.
The NXT’s are NOT softer feeing than the RX! Why do people write BS reviews? The RX has a softer core than any titleist period.
I have played all the balls on the market. I play of 4 handicap. My SS is 105 to 110. I play the B 330 or B330s depending on the greens we play. Soft greens B330 and firm greens B330S. The ProV’s are great but I cannot controll the spin on short irons and putting the feel is to soft. the Pro’s love ProV’s and it is a great ball. My point, pick a ball that works for you, dont shoot down the other brands, why must your ball be better than the other, point is, select a ball that works for you. From a group of 60 players at a recent event I played, I was the only one playing Bridgestone, at the end at least 5 people wanted to try the ball B330S. I have played the RX and my wife who playes of 5 handicap changed from ProV and Srixon Z Star to the RX and RXS main reason, she gets more distance on driver and more durable than both ProV and Srixon. she is one of the best I have ever seen around the green, the RX spin less then ProV and Srixon but the RXS is fantastic her SS is 80 to 90 with Driver. In our country Bridgstone cost 15% less than ProV’s so performance and value for money TOPS. Last point, you pay $ 300 for driver, $ 650 for irons etc then you want to play a $ 2 ball? ?
