Golf can be a challenge when your dealing with the elements, especially with the wind and rain during the fall and winter seasons. The biggest problem you face is what to wear to keep you dry and warm during your round, that’s not going to restrict your movement and have your overheat.  The Hurricane Collection from Sunice was first introduced in 2008 and is designed with the avid golfer in mind and aims at providing a garment that truly performs, provides quiet freedom of movement and is extremely lightweight.

“The Hurricane Collection features the most high-performance fabrics in golf outerwear,” says Mark Fletcher, president of Sunice. “Our selection of fabrics in this category is ideal for golf—quiet and light. Whether GORE-TEX® or Windstoper®, these styles represent our most technically advanced designs, while providing the greatest performance and comfort for golfers.”

Look and Feel

The 2009 Sunice Shell collection, which represents the essence of the Sunice brand. The Sunice Hurricane GORE-TEX® Ultimate jacket. Aptly named, this garment offers unique features such as the Sunice Pro-Trim® adjustable waist cinch, 4-way stretch inserts, in-pocket ball cleaner, ergonomic action cuff, sleeve pocket (left arm), waterproof zippers and sleeve rain channels to direct water away from the wrist and hand. The black stretch GORE-TEX® fabric has a really nice soft feel and touch to it that is not too stiff and moves with your body quite nicely. The contrast red laminate taped seams and pockets give the Sunice Ultimate jacket a nice sporty look, and a little extra flare without being over the top. The cut of the jacket is athletic, meaning that its slightly shorter in the front and has a little longer tail in the back. Having an athletic cut assures you that you won’t have the jacket interfering with your arms during your swing and provides good coverage on your lower back, especially during the rain. All Hurricane waterproof garments come with a waterproof lifetime guarantee. Hurricane products bear either the insignia of GORE-TEX® (as found on the Ultimate Jacket)-the world’s leading and most-trusted outerwear fabric brand-or GORE® WINDSTOPPER®, offering total windproofness and maximum breathability.

Performance
Sunice has always been synonymous with science—the technical and functional attributes of all Sunice garments make them the most trusted
men’s and women’s technical outerwear available. The Ultimate jacket has a couple of great performance features that truly show that Sunice really knows how to design a great golf jacket. The rain channels that are featured on each of the sleeves prevents water from dripping on your wrists and hands, which is an great little feature. There is nothing worse to be playing while its raining and have the water run straight down onto your hands, making it harder to grip your club. The rain channels act like a gutter, directing the water away from your hands and work quite well in moderate rain. The telescopic elastic cuffs do a nice job of keeping the sleeves from hanging too low on your arms and from interfering with your swing. The next really nice performance feature is the integrated ball cleaner in the left hand pocket, which is a microfiber towel attached to a leash, so you can wipe your ball dry and clean off any debris. This is a nice touch, so you don’t have to constantly run to your bag to wipe your ball down. The ball towel is also removable so you can wash it after it gets dirty. The other great feature is the stretch panels in the elbows of the Sunice Ultimate jacket. Probably my biggest complaint about wearing outerwear when playing golf is the loss of movement and restriction in your swing. This is no longer a huge issue, thanks to the stretch panels in the elbows of the Ultimate jacket, that give you a full range of motion in your swing.  This is something every golfer can appreciate.

As mentioned before, this jacket is made with a GORE-TEX® 2-layer performance shell material, that is guaranteed to keep you dry. I can tell you that you do not have to worry about getting wet while wearing this jacket. One thing that the Ultimate jacket does a really nice job of is block the wind. Even though the jacket does not contain GORE® WINDSTOPPER® fabric, it does do a nice job of keeping the wind out too. I wore the Ultimate on an extremely windy and cool day (45+ MPH and 45 F) and the jacket kept me very warm. Another advantage of GORE-TEX® is the breathability factor of the fabric. The last thing you want on a cold rainy day is to start sweating and overheating underneath your jacket, and I’m happy to say that the Ultimate jacket does great job of letting your perspiration evaporate out.  On top pf that the jackets is ultra lightweight weighing less than 500 grams, so you won’t feel like you’re wearing a tarp. One of the features I was surprised not see on this jacket, were pit vents, like you do on snowboard jackets, but I guess that defeats the purpose of keeping you warm and dry.

Overall, I really like what the Sunice Hurricane Ultimate jacket has to offer in terms of performance and great functionality with the golfer in mind.

The Sunice Ulitmate GORE-TEX® Jacket retails for $ 399.95

Sunice makes great gear. I’m interested to see how Adidas markets it now that it’s under their portfolio of brands.

Doug,
it should be interesting to see how it will be marketed. At the PGA Show, Adidas/Ashworth/Sunice are all at one booth. I’m sure they will continue to market them as individual brands, like Callaway did when they owned both brands.

Sunice makes really good quality gear and the Gore-TEX fabric is one part of the high price tag, because your guaranteed to stay dry while wearing the Hurricane jacket.
Thanks
Rob
