Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove, IL-The last day of the 2009 Solheim Cup had one of the most exciting endings for this biennial event, which was filled with a lot of memorable moments for fans and players.
The Solheim Cup was unlike any LPGA event or PGA event that I’ve attended. The atmosphere and camaraderie of the players, especially between rookie Solheim Cup captain’s pick Michelle Wie and fan favorite Christina Kim. The bond between these two players was like that of sisters, with Christina Kim helping and encouraging Michelle Wie to blossom at this event.
The Solheim Cup was also Michelle Wie’s coming out party, where she was able to let loose and show her personality. According to Michelle Wie in the press conference, “This is the most fun I’ve ever had playing…” Wie also brought her game to her first Solheim Cup by going 3-0-1, quite impressive for a rookie.
What also made this past week so exciting is that the players were able express themselves in way they normally don’t. I think that this could be beneficial to LPGA if every tournament was like a Solheim Cup, where the players can shine and show their personalities.
The other highlight of Sunday’s Solheim Cup was Morgan Pressels defeat of Anna Nordqvist on the 16th hole to clinch the Cup for the U.S.A. Team members Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome were on hand to cheer Morgan on as she clinched the victory for U.S. It truly was a remarkable event and had a blast covering it.
