Lemont, IL-The final round of the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club was nothing short of spectacular as Tiger Woods won by an 8 shot margin over the field with a score of 68 at 19-under 265, to win for the fifth time at Cog Hill.

Tiger Woods J.K. Wadley Cup Fairway

This is the 10th time in Woods career where he has won by at least eight shots and this is the fourth course where he has won at least five times. Woods has won seven times at Torrey Pines, Firestone, and six times at Bay Hill.

The 9th hole was probably the most amazing hole of the day for Tiger in my opinion, where Woods started his tee shot that ended up 60 yards right of the fairway. From there he hit a 3-iron through a sea of people amassed around his ball and over 40 foot canopy of trees. The most difficult shot was yet to come with his approach to the green where Tiger had about 106 yards to the hole, that was blocked by yet another tree.

“I just kept telling myself it’s a 9-iron, but I just got to hit it about 50 yards in the air and just make sure I hook it. I didn’t want to carry it any more than 50 yards. If anything, make the mistake of hitting it short of the green, it’s an easy pitch from there, instead of hitting it long, and it came out perfect.” Woods said during his press conference.

The ball ended up hooking the tree and bounced up onto the green, leaving woods with a 15 foot putt, which he made for birdie.

Todays victory more than likely assures Tiger that he will win another PGA TOUR Player of the year award and it put him in first place in the FedExCup standings at 2500 points.

The Race for Second Place

Tigers insurmountable lead put the rest of the field into scramble mode to see who would make the cut to move onto 30-man finale at East Lake.

Jim Furyk said afterwards in his press conference, ”Tiger was seven ahead. He was kind of running away. It was kind of a tournament for second place.” Furyk, who started the day tied for 8th, posted a score of 66 to bump him up 15 spots to No. 3. He now has a chance to win the overall FedExCup with a victory at East Lake.

The Battle for the 30th Spot

snedeker putting nightmare

The biggest shocker of the day had to be Brandt Snedeker’s triple bogey on 18, to blow his chances of making the cut and moving on to the TOUR Championship at East Lake. All Snedeker needed was a bogey finish on 18 to advance to the Tour Championship. Instead, Snedeker missed a 12-foot putt for par, and then watched his 3-foot bogey putt lip out, and shocked the gallery and himself, by missing two tap-in putts.

This opened the door for John Sneden to capture the 30th spot by a slight margin over Ian Poulter.

The TOUR Championship will be very interesting to watch to see who will walk away with the FedExCup and if Tiger will be able t dominate the field again like he did this past week at Cog Hill.
