Your wedges are probably one of the most important clubs in your bag and the one club you replace every season. What if you could replace the face of your wedges, instead of having to replace the entire wedge? You’re in luck, because the new TaylorMade XFT wedges allow you replace the face of the wedges with fresh grooves whenever they need replacement.
The new TaylorMade XFT Wedges utilize a four-step process to produce a face that lies flat and high performance grooves. The grooves of the XFT wedges feature a rough groove surface that help promote maximum backspin and control that you want in your short game.
To replace the face you utilize a similar torque wrench that you use on the R9 or R7 drivers to loosen the bolts on the XFT wedges and washers hold the bolts in place so you don’t lose them. Watch the video as TaylorMade’s Wade Liles demonstrates how easy it is to get fresh grooves.
TaylorMade XFT Wedges $139 and replacement grooves $39
Available in lofts from 50,52,54, 56,58,60, 64 with varying bounces.

That is really cool. I have always hated replacing wedges and having to tweak and tinker to get the new wedge feeling right. Just pop in some new groves and you are backing the ball up again 2 minutes later.
Do you know when we can buy the XFT wedges?
And I think this idea is amazing. I just started playing golf and I’ve been playing a lot! at least the driving range 4 times a week and playing at least 27 holes a week…but anyways I already had to replace my 60* wedge and the only thing that was wrong with the club was the face…the shaft and the grip were pretty much like new. So I had to get a whole new wedge. This idea is great! It will save me money! I can’t wait to buy them.
The XFT should be available at retail already. I would check with Golf Galaxy or Golf Smith in your areas.
Thanks
Rob
I have been looking around and no one has any idea of when they are hitting stores.
There are a couple of people on the internet suggesting they will be hitting stores in February but I can’t find anything official from TM about the official release date.
Bob,
Let me look into this. I wonder if the whole groove ruling delayed the release date. When I saw the XFT Wedges at the BMW Championship, they were supposed to hit stores this November. I’ll see what I can find out.
Thanks
R
There are a number of XFT wedges available on eBay, some new, some demo. However they are not available at retail yet, and most likely won’t be until mid- to late-March. The torque wrench will not be inlcuded, so you need one from the R9 (higher torque — not from an r7) or buy one separately from a golf retailer. I heard there was an issue with the internal washer alignment (that prevents the screw from fully removing) that held the release back a few weeks full-bore.
