Puerto Rico Open Rain Delay

1st Hole at Trump Internationa Golf Club in Rio Grande Puerto Rico

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico-The 2010 Puerto Rico Open had its play suspended this morning at  7:19 AM this morning with only nine players being able to play. The current leader thru one hole is Cleveland Golf’s Skip Kendall, who is -2 under par with his birdie on the par 3 10th hole at Trump  International Golf Club. Alex Cejka is the lone player in second at -1 under par, with six other players tied for third, and two players tied for eighth.

Play has been suspended for the day and round one will resume Friday at 7:15 AM. They will play preferred lies tomorrow and there is a 30% chance of showers for Friday’s play. Play is expected to be completed on Sunday, but that might be difficult because there is only 12 hours of daylight in Puerto Rico. Otherwise, play will be completed on Monday.

Trump International Golf Club was saturated with a torrential downpour of rain that hasn’t let up since this morning when play was suspended. The course conditions are so bad that it makes it unplayable to continue the opening round. In the short three year history of the Puerto Rico Open, this is the first time play has been suspended. This is reminiscent of the 2009 Viking Classic, where massive rain cut the tournament short.

And I thought that March was supposed to be the driest month in Puerto Rico? I guess you can’t control mother nature!
