A couple of days ago on the Comcast blog it was announced that they will be broadcasting the 2010 Masters April 7-11 in 3D to TV and over the Internet. This is an industry first on many levels and especially for such an historic golf event, like the Masters, but how this is done is another story in itself.

The fine folks at Engadget HD have done a nice job of answering some of the most basic questions for how Comcast will broadcast the Masters in 3D.

Questions like: What format/compression will Comcast use on its Masters broadcast and going forward? Will I need a new cable box or have to get a firmware update of some kind to watch 3D?Will I be able to see the broadcast if I don’t live in a Comcast area/don’t want Comcast? What will the experience be like?

I’m not a big fan of 3D movies, but I’d be willing to watch the Masters in 3D a shot. I could only imagine what Amen Corner looks like in 3D. Stay tuned for my update on how watching the Masters in 3D goes.

I look forward to seeing how this goes for Comcast. Here in Canada it won’t be available in 3-D. Just the upcoming Shrek Goes Fourth :)
