It was a fairy tale ending for the 27 year old South African Louis Oosthuizen, who’s friends call ”Shrek” because of the gap between his teeth, after winning the 2010 Open Championship at St. Andrews. Oosthuizen won the Open Championship by a 7 strokes (16-under par, 271) for the tournament, and joins other former British Open Champions: Gary Player, Bobby Locke, and Ernie Els.
“To win an Open championship is special,” Oosthuizen said. “But to win it at St. Andrews … it’s something you dream about.”
Special indeed, considering that Oosthuizen missed the cut at the 2010 Masters and U.S. Open, and was favored 200-1 to win the British Open. I’d like to know who placed bet on Oosthuizen this weekend, because just like Louis Oosthuizen, they are smiling all the way to the bank!
Louis Oosthuizen’s setup for the 2010 British Open at St. Andrews:

- Irons: Ping New S56 3-9 irons
