Carl Pettersson rallied to win his fourth PGA TOUR victory, by following his tournament-record 60 with a 3-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over Dean Wilson. The turning point in the tournament for Pettersson was in the third round when he posted a 10—under-par round of 60 for a new tournament record. Pettersson said he was pleased with his driving and one of the keys to his record-breaking third round was in the way he drove the ball. Using his Nike VR Tour 11.5 degree driver, Pettersson hit every fairway en route to a 60.
“I changed my driver a month and a half ago to the VR,” said Pettersson after he secured his victory. “Yeah, the key to winning here was driving — putting it in play.”
Using the winning combination of the Nike VR Tour Driver and Nike ONE Tour ball, Pettersson finished in the top-10 in driving accuracy with a 73% average.
Rounding out Pettersson’s arsenal of Nike Golf equipment was his Nike Pro Combo 4-iron, Nike VR Split Cavity irons (5-pw), his Nike VR 49 and 55-degree wedges and the new Nike VR V-Rev 60-degree wedge. Pettersson has used Nike Golf equipment for each of his four PGA Tour victories.
“I’ve been with Nike for eight years now, and they’ve been very good to me. I like the equipment,” said Pettersson.
Other Nike top-finishers in the tournament include major champions Trevor Immelman and David Duval who finished at 9-under-par and 8-under-par, respectively.
