The 40th Ryder Cup in Scotland started earlier this morning and the number one player in the world, Rory McIlroy may be putting into play the new Nike Vapor Pro driver, which he has been practicing with all week. Its bold move by McILroy to switch out equipment, considering his has won two Majors (Open Championship and PGA Championship) using the Nike Covert 2.0 driver.
Backing up Rory McILroy is Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley, who said he isn’t concerned with the world number one player putting a new club in the bag.
“Doesn’t concern me at all,” McGinley said. “I trust Rory with his decisions. He spoke to me and said first thing when he got here, ‘I’ve been testing something new, this is where I’m at with it, do you have a problem?’ I said, ‘Rory, I don’t have any problem. You make your own decisions. You have your own team around you.
“You are the best player in the world, make your own decisions and I’m not going to influence that.’ I’d never dream of giving a player a lesson or telling them what to do. They make their own decisions, that’s why they’re top players and that’s why they are here.”
