For many years Adams Golf has been an industry leader with its hybrid golf clubs, earning a spot in many bags on Tour. New for 2012, is Adams Golf Idea Super XTD hybrid, which they liken to having a driver in a hybrid body.
Why the driver comparison?Adams Golf engineers have developed a new multi-material construction technology, that brazes a titanium face and crown to a steel sole, which produces a hybrid with the performance of a driver.
At the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show Outdoor Demo Day, we caught up with Adams Golf V.P. of Research and Development, Tim Reed to talk about the Adams Super hybrid. Watch the video to learn about why the Super hybrid is the most advanced hybrid developed by Adams Golf.
Key Features of the Adams Idea Super XTD Hybrid:
Slot Technology-Titanium slot in the crown and steel slot in the sole for maximum ball flight and speed
Lowest Center of Gravity in a hybrid for increased ball speed and less spin
36 % hotter face than a traditional hybrid for increased ball speed and distance
Last year we wrote about how Quagmire Golf was working closely Arnold Palmer Enterprises to develop a collection of golf clothing based on Arnold Palmer’s style in the 1950s,’60s, and ’70s.
“The Arnie line of apparel represents the styles of clothing that are popular today as they were in the earlier part of my career. It’s been a a real thrill to see some of my signature pieces come back to life, and experience the enthusiasm Geoff and Bobby have for introducing them to the next generation.”-Arnold Palmer
The Arnie Collections
Each of the Arnie Wear collections is based on the looks that were popular during that particular decade. All collections feature a mix of both performance and signature pieces, as well as a timeless lifestyle collection based on each of the three decades.
1950s Collection
With its clean, straight, comfortable fit, this collection is the most appealing in my opinion, because it can be worn on an off the golf course and by most people. Think Mad Men, meets golf with short placket golf shirts, smaller collars, and shorter sleeves, while the pants are straight legged. Some of my favorite pieces from this collection are the Classic with its contrast piping and the Big Win sweater which is a cotton/cashmere blend fair isle sweater with the signature umbrella across the chest. They even have shorts with the umbrella print on them called Spiffy.
1960s Collection
The ’60s were all about self-expression, and you see that in the relaxed style of the boot cut pants, bigger shirt collars, and longer plackets. You’ll find the fun style of the Albatross to be the epitome of the era, with this umbrella printed polo with contrast collar and pocket and front Arnie embroidery. Let’s not forget the Arnold Palmer signature cardigans like the Palmer, with its stripe detail.
1970s Collection
During what was certainly a fashionable decade, Mr. Palmer selected cool and subdued colors with styling that blended the ’50s and ’60s. The shirts in this collection had slightly wider collars and long plackets, and the pants had more of a boot cut. Some of my favorite pieces in the ’70s collection include the Intense shirt made from a 60% cotton/40% polyester blend that feature a contrast woven detail on the shoulders and yoke of the shirt. The Lounge is great looking gingham 98% cotton/2% spandex that has the look of a short sleeve cowboy shirt, with applets detailing. Surprisingly, the style of ’70s collection translate well into the fashion we see today and has some really great gems.
If you’re just looking for some items that will go with anything and everything, but with a modern fit, you’ll want to check out the Timeless collection. The Timeless collection features some great plaid pants and shorts, solid polos, collectible t-shirts, and belts, that any true Arnie fan would appreciate.
The resulting collections have a clean, classic, and cool sensibility that put Mr. Palmer on “25 coolest athletes of all time.” Overall, I think the new Arnie line by Quagmire Golf shows a lot of promise and will appeal to almost any golfer.
Using the new RAZR Fit Driver and HEX Black Tour golf ball from Callaway, Phil Mickelson played a sterling final round at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Sunday to grab his first win of the 2012 season and the 40th of his now Hall of Fame career.
Phil Mickelson’s Setup for the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am:
At the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show Outdoor Demo Day, you get to check out a lot of the new equipment for 2012, but one of the more interesting things I saw had nothing to do with equipment-it was a golf grip. That’s right, a golf grip-The Secret Grip by Boccieri Golf.
What is the Secret Grip?
The Secret Grip is Steve Boccieri’s answer to a better golf swing by placing a 16g tungsten back weight in the cap of a golf grip. Back weighting raises the balance point of the club which promotes better body mechanics and improved consistency and distance control.
The weight does multiple things for the golf swing: a better plane takeaway, forces you to set your hands more quickly, an easier transition of dropping the hands, helps keep your angle of retention longer, square the face at impact, full extension at impact, and balanced finish.
Now you’re probably thinking, if I put this on each of my golf clubs in my bag, won’t it throw off the center of gravity and balance point of each club? Quite the contrary according to Steve Boccieri, CEO and founder of Boccieri Golf. Watch the video as Steve explains why the Secret Grip will change your game forever, without changing your golf clubs.
I can’t wait to regrip some of the clubs in my bag to see if the Secret Grip improves my consistency in my golf swing and distance. At $9.50 you can’t go wrong with trying out the Secret Grip. Who knows, it may help your swing. Stay tuned for an in-depth review of the Secret Grip.
In golf we are always looking for ways to improve our game, and lot of the times we look to new equipment as way to shave some strokes from our score. Recently at the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show, I came across an interesting new product to hit the United States market called PoleTern Functional Golf Socks. Yes, that’s right, golf socks that can improve your golf game.
About PoleTern Golf Socks
Already a huge hit in South Korea, PoleTern is making its United States debut as the worlds first line of functional golf socks. After meeting with Terry Kim, PoleTern USA, Partner I was really intrigued by the claims of how a pair of golf socks can help improve your golf game.
The PoleTern golf socks are made from high grade melange cotton and polyester blend, that are really soft to the touch. On the bottom of each sock, which is labeled right and left, you have strategically placed silicon traction pads to support your body weight and feet from getting sore.
PoleTern Difference
PoleTern USA worked with podiatrists and golf experts to engineer a pair of functional golf shocks that will help your game by doing the following:
Prevent your right foot from opening on the backswing
Stabilize your core and eliminate sway on your backswing and follow through
Improve your balance, by providing support to your fifth toe with the help of strategically placed traction pads
Keep your feet smelling fresh with the use if green tea extract silicon padding
It does makes me wonder if socks can help shave strokes off your game and I will be testing these socks out to validate the claims. The one thing I do know is that Korean golfers take golf very seriously, and hopefully its success in Korea will carry-over in the U.S. Stay tuned for the results of my tests!
Callaway Golf decided it was time to make an adjustable face driver, that combines their Forged Composite and with its OptiFit Technology-resulting a performance driver for all golfers. Watch this video of Callaway’s Matt Haneline, talk about all the features of the soon to be released driver, from the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show.
Callaway RAZR FIT Lightning Review
I played 9 holes with Callaway RAZR FIT driver and I was really impressed with how easy it is to hit. The Variable Face Technology and Hyperbolic face give the RAZR FIT a large sweet spot that’s easy to hit. The RAZR FIT produces a nice medium-high trajectory on your drives, that explode off the face.
The Forged Composite crown helps reduce weight and create an optimal center of gravity, which makes for a high MOI driver that is very forgiving. Even on shots not hit squarely on the face, like the toe of the driver, my drives resulted in more of a fade, than a slice.
In terms of adjustability, you can set the face square/neutral, open, or closed. So your options are limited in terms of adjusting the face, but I prefer a simple setup like this, because you don’t have to mess around with so many settings. This in my opinion is where Callaway got it right. Changing the face is a snap, with the torque wrench that’s included. The RAZR FIT comes with a stock ALDILA RIP’D NV 458 CC 45.5″ shaft, that has a D5 swing weight, and Golf Pride, New Decade grip.
If your looking to purchase an adjustable face driver, you really should consider the Callaway RAZR FIT. It’s simple setup and forgiving face make it a great driver for all types of golfers.
The Callaway RAZR FIT driver will be available February 17, 2012.
