The mechanics of putting has many factors that influence the outcome of your putt: stroke type, impact angle, and tempo. If you want to get those measured, you could go and get a putter fitting with your local golf professional or club fitter. This is the traditional approach and may not be an option for some golfers, who don’t have time or the means to do so.

Wouldn’t it be great if a golfer could analyze his/her stroke type, impact angle, and tempo without getting a putter fitting? That’s what the Ping is trying to do with its free iPING app for the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch (4th generation). The iPING app works in conjunction with a Ping cradle ($30 MSRP), which holds the iPhone or iPod Touch onto the putter shaft, below the grip. About the iPING App

The iPING app analyzes and displays you consistency onscreen using the three criteria: stroke type (determined by how much the putter face rotates during the forward stroke); impact angle (the putter’s face angle at impact, relative to address); and tempo (a measure of the duration of the backswing relative to the forward swing).

The app works by computing consistency over a series of five putts where your stroke type, impact angle and tempo are measured, displayed and stored for every putt in that session. Your consistency scores are averaged over time to build a Putting Handicap (PHcp). As you improve your consistency, you’ll see your PHcp come down.

Titleist 910 Prototype Driver

Some of the key features you’ll learn about the Titleist 910 prototype driver is the design, which features an ultra-thin crown. Titleist engineers moved the weight as far back as possible to create a low deep center of gravity, which produces more ball speed off the face and a more stable clubhead.

The face technology being used is the Variable Face Thickness technology, but instead of just a small circle on the face, Titleist mirrored the shape of the face to allow for 15-18% increase in maximum ball speed.

A new feature on 910 prototype driver is the Sure Fit Tour Hosel, or as Megan referred to it, “Tour Van in a hosel.” The Sure Fit Tour Hosel, allows anyone to precisely fit their driver between different degree settings, and independently adjust loft and lie.

Currently the 910 prototype driver is in the Tour Validation Process, where Titleist Brand Ambassadors put the new driver into play in the field, with the goal of finding any flaws or ways to improve the club before putting it into production.

The 910 Driver will be available later this Fall.

TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Dustin Johnson rallied to win the BMW Championship with a final-round 69 at Cog Hill, helping to secure second place position in the FedExCup standings heading to the season-ending TOUR Championship. Johnson, 26, played the Penta TP golf ball in his fourth career PGA Tour victory and further established his reputation as one of the best players in the world under the age of 30.

The long-hitting Johnson again relied on his massive power in victory, ranking second in driving distance (318.1) for the week and delivering a mammoth tee shot on the par-4 17th hole, which lead to a crucial birdie. Johnson’s lone birdie on the back nine came after a pinpoint 96-yard wedge shot settled one foot below the flag; he converted the tap-in to move to nine under-par and reclaim a one-shot lead that proved the difference in the championship.

The big story at the BMW Championship this year wasn’t about Tiger being able to make it onto the last stop of the FedEx Cup playoffs in Atlanta, it was about the emergence of a new faces, like Ryan Moore, Charlie Wi, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Paul Casey, and Johnson. Yes, some of them have been around a while and not completely new to the Tour, but it was refreshing to see new talent emerge from a Tour once dominated by Tiger and Phil.

The Turning Point

The turning point for Dustin, was on the 17th, where he hit a 96 yard approach shot within 3 feet of the cup, for a tap-in birdie and take a one-shot lead over Paul Casey. And the rest was history, no implosion on 18, no grounding of the club in a bunker, or anything else. Johnson finished the week shooting 9-under 275.

“No, they all mean a lot.” Johnson said . “I know I’ve had some failures, but I don’t know if I’d call them failures. I’ve had a few mishaps. But still, today to come back and get it done, I’m very proud of myself. I think I’ve handled everything very well, and now I’ve got to look forward to two weeks from now in Atlanta.”

Lemont, IL – September 11, 2010..Sean O’Hair scored a hole-in-one today during the third round of the BMW Championship, the third leg in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. In recognition of O’Hair’s hole-in-one, BMW donated a four-year college scholarship to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which will provide an incremental college scholarship to another deserving caddie for the 2011-2012 school year.

Evans Scholar Matthew Sachaj, a caddie at Green Acres Country Club in Northbrook, Illinois, met O’Hair and BMW of North America President Jim O’Donnell to receive the scholarship check on behalf of the Evans Scholars Foundation. Sachaj graduated from Notre Dame College Prep and is an incoming freshman at Northwestern University.

BMW continued its Hole-In-One scholarship tradition, which grants a four-year Evans Scholarship in recognition of any player to score the first hole-in-one on any hole during the tournament. O’Hair holed his tee shot on the 211-yard, par three second hole on Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’s Dubsdread course, where the top 70 golfers on the PGA TOUR are competing this week for the final 30 spots in the TOUR Championship.
