Cleveland Golf’s Keegan Bradley has had a ton of success on the PGA Tour in 2011, by winning the HP Byron Nelson Classic, and the PGA Championship in his rookie season. PGA Tour player Jeff Overton has joined Cleveland® Golf’s PGA Tour staff. Overton, a member of the United States’ 2010 Ryder Cup team, is coming off a career year with three second place and two third place finishes. Overton also boasts the unique distinction of being one of only two Americans ever to make it onto the U.S. Ryder Cup team without having won on the PGA Tour.

“Jeff is an extremely talented player who is an ideal fit for our staff,” said Greg Hopkins, CEO of Cleveland® Golf/Srixon. “It’s always exciting for us to have a rising star, playing the best golf of his young career, choose to play our products and want be a part of our team. Overton, who has risen from mid-west obscurity to become one of the PGA Tour’s brightest prospects, posted a career-best six top-10 finishes in 2010, beginning with a runner-up finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. In 2010, Overton was also a runner-up at the HP Byron Nelson Championship and the inaugural Greenbrier Classic, as well as the 2007 Wyndham Championship.

“Cleveland Golf is the perfect match to help support me both on and off the course,” said Overton. “Cleveland Golf’s passion for their players and brand was very appealing to me. I am grateful for Cleveland Golf’s belief in me and I am really excited for the 2011 season.”

Overton, who was born in Evansville, Indiana, attended Indiana University, where he graduated in 2005 with a degree in Sports Marketing and Management. He turned pro in 2005, graduated from Q-School in his first attempt and started to play on the Tour in 2006. Overton will play Cleveland® woods, irons and wedges, while wearing a Cleveland® hat and carrying a Cleveland® bag.

Jim Furyk clinched both the FedExCup and Tour Championship with an amazing sand save on 18 to conclude the PGA Playoffs in high fashion, amid a ton of confusion by the players and the media. Jason Sobel over at ESPN  summed it up best, “The PGA Tour gave media members a sheet offering explanations, but it would have been more legible in Portuguese. Worst yet, even the players had no idea.” I still think you need to be an actuary to really understand the FedExCup system and that needs to change to really get the fans behind the playoffs.

“Coming up 18, I assumed I was playing for the FedEx Cup,” Furyk said, “but I wasn’t 100 percent sure, to be honest with you.”

After a 204 tournaments of frustration, Srixon’s Tim Clark finally got his first PGA Tour win at the 2010 Players Championship. Clark played the final 26 holes without a bogey and set a Stadium Course record with the largest 36-hole comeback. It was fitting to see Clark end his amazing comeback with an 8-foot par putt on the final hole for a 5-under 67. Clark no longer has the distinction of being the richest player without a PGA Tour victory.

“A part of me is a bit disappointed because now no one is going to talk about me anymore,” Clark said. “At least you had something to write about before. Now I’m just another guy with a win.”

Jim Furyk won the 2010 Verizon Heritage by beating fellow Srixon staffer Brian Davis, who called a two-stroke penalty on himself during their playoff. Davis, hit a loose impediment during his backswing and called in a rules official to alert them of the violation that had happened, ending the one-hole playoff-giving Furky his second victory of 2010, since March.

“Awkward for him to lose that way, and a little awkward for me to win,” said Furyk. “It’s obviously a tough loss for him and I respect and admire what he did.” Davis’ errant approach shot on the first playoff hole hit the left edge of the green, rattled off the rocks bordering Calibogue Sound and settled among some grass. “It was one of those things,” said Davis. “I thought I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and I thought we’d check on TV, and indeed there was movement.”

Furyk finished at 13-under 271 and won for the 15th time in his career, moving him up to No. 5 in the World Golf Rankings.
