Suzann Pettersen’s sheer determination was evident in the Sybase Match Play Championship as she managed to win six straight matches over 103 holes to capture her seventh LPGA career title.

In a grueling week of competition, Pettersen relied on the new Nike 20XI-X golf ball, featuring game-changing resin core technology that is faster and lighter than traditional rubber cores. A faster and lighter core results in longer distance and more controlled shots, which benefitted Pettersen on the 6,585-yard Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey.

2010 was a banner year for Nike Golf’s Suzann Pettersen who had 12 top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, with 6 of those 12 being tied for 2nd place.

At the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show Outdoor Demo Day, we got to interview Pettersen who is ranked 3rd in the Rolex rankings about:  How she carry over her success from 2010 into 2011, what new equipment she is playing, how often she visits “The OVEN”, what her favorite type of match up is for the Solheim Cup, and if she change her equipment when playing in Europe.

2010 was a great year in golf, with the European’s dominating all but, one of golf’s four Majors, the rise of young stars like rookie of the year Rickie Fowler, and Tiger Woods return to golf. What does 2011 have in store for golf? Here are my predictions for 2011 in no particular order.

1. Paul Casey will win a golf tournament after coming up short several times in 2010.  For a golfer with so much talent, he’s only won once on Tour-2009 Houston Open, but multiple times in Europe. Other notables include fellow countryman Luke Donald.
2. The golf industry will go through another round of consolidation. Titleist will be acquired by an Asian golf company and Scotty Cameron by Nike Golf.
3. White is the new black, as more golf companies start producing white golf clubs. Im hoping this is just a trend.
4. Tiger Woods will become the World’s Number One golfer again, and return to being a dominant golfer. With his new swing and all his personal problems behind him, 2011 should be the year of the Tiger.
5. Rickie Fowler will have a breakout year, winning at least twice in 2011. The young golfer with his bright and colorful golf attire, proved he has what it takes to play on the PGA Tour, especially with the poise he showed during his singles match at the Ryder Cup. Others to watch include Rory McIlroy.
6. Matt Kuchar will win one of the four Majors in 2011. The consistent ball striker, money leader, and numerous top 10 finishes, he’s destined to win big. Don’t count out Steve Stricker and Ian Poulter.
7. U.S. women  will be more dominant on the LPGA Tour, with Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr leading the way.
8. The PGA Tour will simplify the FedEx Cup points system, so you don’t need to be an actuary to figure out who will be the winner.

The phenomenal talent of Michelle Wie came shining through at the LPGA’s CN Canadian Women’s Open. The 20-year-old Nike athlete captured her second LPGA career title by leading the tournament from start to finish and ultimately winning by a three-stroke margin.

One of the highlights of her week was in the first round when she made the second ace of her career on the par-3 181-yard 11th hole, where she hit a Nike VR Blade 5-iron. This propelled her to 5-under-par for the tournament and gave her the solo lead. According to Wie, the key to her win was in her ball striking and her putting. On the back nine in the final round, Wie made three consecutive birdies using Nike’s Method putter.

“I made a lot of putts, but at the same time I made a lot of really crucial putts,” said Wie. “And you know, I think it was my ball striking that really kept me above water today.”

During the week, Wie averaged 290-yard drives with her Nike VR Tour driver and maintains the highest ranking in the LPGA Tour’s driving average category with the winning combination of her driver and Nike ONE Tour ball. Wie also played with the Nike VR Blades, Nike VR wedges, Nike VR STR8-FIT 13-degree fairway wood and Nike VR hybrids. Wie wore Nike Golf apparel and footwear.

Fellow Nike athlete Suzann Pettersen, who also has a full bag of Nike arsenal, including the VR STR8-FIT driver, VR Split Cavity irons and the Method putter, finished tied for second in the event which she won last year.

Wie’s win brings to eight the number of professional wins by Nike Golf athletes around the world.

The Associated Press is reporting that the Clark County coroner’s office ruled Tuesday that 25-year-old professional golfer Erica Blasberg’s death was a suicide.

Blasberg died May 9 at her home in Henderson, about 15 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. The coroner’s office said Blasberg died of suicide due to asphyxia, coupled with the presence of toxic levels of prescription medication in her system, including prescription headache, cough, pain and anti-anxiety medications.

“While asphyxia was the primary cause of death, the presence of prescription drugs in Ms. Blasberg’s system was a significant factor,” Coroner Michael Murphy said.

The Henderson Police Department also announced it concluded an extensive investigation Tuesday and determined there was no foul play.
Still, a misdemeanor obstruction of justice arrest warrant was issued for Dr. Thomas Hess for allegedly removing items from the death scene before police arrived at the home.

Police have said a 911 call from Hess summoning police came from the house, and that Blasberg was alone when officers arrived. Blasberg’s agent said her bags were packed for a tournament in Mobile, Ala., when she was found.

The death investigation was complicated, police said, because Hess admitted to altering the scene — including the removal of a note indicating Blasberg took her own life — and he stopped cooperating with detectives. Hess hid the note and prescription medications in his vehicle.

Ai Miyazato waves to the crowd at the Safeway Classic-AP Phot/Rick Bowmer

PORTLAND, OREGON– Japan’s Ai Miyazato soared back to the top of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings with her victory this Sunday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Miyazato went wire-to-wire, carding a tournament low 11-under par, besting here nearest competitors by two shots at the 2010 Safeway Classic. The victory was Miyazato’s fifth of the year, setting her personal career best for most LPGA wins in one season.

Miyazato won the event with a Tourstage X-01G+ prototype golf ball, manufactured by Bridgestone and popular in Japan where its Tour-level performance is often compared to the Bridgestone TOUR B330-S, the company’s comparable ball played in the U.S. on the PGA, Champion and Nationwide Tours. Miyazato earned $225,000 for her victory, and expanded her lead on the 2010 LPGA Money List to nearly $15,000 more than the #2 earner.
