Cleveland Golf’s Keegan Bradley has had a ton of success on the PGA Tour in 2011, by winning the HP Byron Nelson Classic, and the PGA Championship in his rookie season. We caught up with Keegan at the 2011 BMW Championship, to discuss his recent success on TOUR, how he prepares for a tournament, golfers switching to belly putters, what he does in his downtime, and what shock jock he likes to listen to.

Last night, TaylorMade handed off golf’s version of the ‘Golden Ticket’, as TaylorMade Tour Staffer Dustin Johnson dressed up in a FedEx delivery uniform and literally delivered a FedEx shipment containing TaylorMade’s one millionth white metalwood to an unsuspecting golfer in Clifton, NJ, named Patrick Spina. This lucky golfer received the actual R11 driver he custom ordered last week and limited edition (only five in existance) gold-plated R11.

As you know, the introduction of the revolutionary white R11 and Burner SuperFast 2.0 had a major impact in the industry and the driver category, in particular, where TaylorMade achieved record marketshare in February 2011. Just seven months after launch, already one million of the new products have been shipped and the company projects to sell more than two million worldwide by the end of the calendar year.

To recognize the shipment of one millionth white metalwood, TaylorMade planned to surprise their ‘Golden Ticket’ consumer on Tuesday with the help of our primary international and domestic shipping partner, FedEx. The occasion was especially timely at the start of the 2011 FedExCup playoffs at The Barclay’s.

Johnson, in an effort to make the moment as authentic as possible, wore a real FedEx uniform and unloaded the package from a FedEx Express truck. TaylorMade, FedEx and the PGA Tour captured the consumer reaction in an camera in an “Ed McMahon” moment at Upper Montclair Country Club.

Keegan Bradley won the PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club wielding an Odyssey White Hot XG Sabertooth Putter (belly model) to grab his first major championship title in his first major championship appearance.

Bradley’s putter is 46.75” to the end of the grip. It has three degrees of loft and a lie angle of 67.5 degrees. It weighs 762 grams and has a double-bend ski pole shaft with a Winn Flat Top Mid grip. Bradley is the first player to win a major with a long putter (a belly putter).

Bradley began using the putter last year on the Nationwide Tour at the Stadion Classic in Athens, Georgia. He has used it at every event except the Honda Classic this year, where he started the week with a White Ice Dart Mallet Mid with the same specs. According to Odyssey tour rep Johnny Thompson, Bradley nearly changed to a different Odyssey model at the Byron Nelson Championship earlier this season, but decided on Wednesday afternoon to stay with what he calls “The Tooth.” That turned out to be a good move because he won the tournament for his first PGA Tour title.

Thompson checks the loft and lie on “The Tooth”’ every week—at least twice—for Bradley because he is very particular about the loft and lie not changing. This year at the Canadian Open he started the week with a shorter, more upright version of “The Tooth” in order to get his eyes closer to over the ball. After an uncomfortable week, he went back to the original gamer and that is the putter he just won his first major with.

Fun Facts: This was the 10th PGA Tour win of the season for Odyssey putters. Odyssey had 40 putters in play this week which was 25.6% of the putters in play.

Bubba Watson held off home town favorite Phil Mickelson to win his second PGA Tour event, since the Travelers Championship in 2010.

If you have ever watched a PGA Tour event in person or on TV, you probably wondered how do they get the the statistics on number of greens hit in regulation or what hole had the most birdies that round, etc.  All of this statistical information is provided by the PGA Tour ShotLink truck, which travels to all the PGA Tour events.

With the PGA Tour kicking off in Hawaii, you might be wondering, how do they get the ShotLink truck there?

Digital Asset Management and Disaster Recovery
The PGA Tour and CDW are also working on a major digital asset management project to digitize hundreds of hours of golf footage, and make it easy to search through the archive. This process will take approximately 3-4 years to complete. “There are about 80,000 hours of historical PGA footage, and we’re in the process of digitizing it,” According to Matt Troka CDW’s Vice President, Product and Partner Management.

Another major project CDW is working on with the PGA Tour is a disaster recovery site in the landlocked and hurricane-free Madison, WI. The data center will preserve all the data for the PGA Tour in-case of a hurricane or natural disaster.

The future looks bright for both the PGA Tour and CDW, and it will be interesting to see what they develop next to enhance watching golf. The PGA Tour partnership goes through 2012.
