Coming Soon: Odyssey White Ice D.A.R.T. Mid and Long Putters at Retail Stores

September 28, 2011 / by / 2 Comments

Belly putters have become a major sensation this season on the PGA Tour and tours around the world. Keegan Bradley’s win at the PGA Championship using an Odyssey White Hot XG Sabertooth putter shined an even greater light on long putters. Beginning with the Deutsche Bank Championship, Odyssey staff pro Phil Mickelson has used a Sabertooth belly putter with a White Hot XG insert. [nggallery id=211] On October 14, Odyssey White Ice D.A.R.T. mid and long putters are scheduled to arrive at retailers across the country. Currently, Odyssey offers mid and long putters in the White Ice 2-Ball model—available in 43 inches (mid/belly length), as well as 48 and 50 inches (long). The D.A.R.T. will be available in the same mid/belly and long lengths. “The number of belly putters being used—and used to win—on the PGA Tour has certainly led to increased interest in belly putters by amateur players,” said Austie Rollinson, Principal Designer for Odyssey. “In the months and weeks that followed, Odyssey moved quickly to increase the availability of mid and long putters and we’re excited that players of all levels will now be able to benefit from playing the D.A.R.T. putter in belly and long models.” The Odyssey […]

Round 1 2011 BMW Championship: The Day in Pictures

September 16, 2011 / by / 0 Comment

[singlepic id=1754 w=490 h=320 float=] [nggallery id=206] Lemont, IL -It may have been an unseasonably cool day at Cog Hill for the opening round of the 2011 BMW Championship, but it didn’t stop Justin Rose from finishing the day with 8 under par (63). “Starting the day today, my mindset was to respect the golf course and to go out there and just fairways and greens it,” Rose said. “That sounds simple. I didn’t expect to do that and make nine birdies out there for sure..” Despite hitting a shank on the par-4 18th, Webb Simpson is tied for 2nd, with Chicago’s Mark Wilson at 6 under (65). Other players in the chasing down Justin Rose, include K.J. Choi 4th (4 under 67), T5 Jim Furyk, Camilo Villegas, and John Sneden (3 under 68), and T8 Rickie Fowler (2 under 69). If conditions stay cool like they are forecasted for the rest of the tournament, the course will firm up and become even tougher for the rest of the field to shoot low scores.

Equipment Insight: Phil Mickelson Odyssey Sabertooth White Hot XG Belly Putter

September 06, 2011 / by / 0 Comment

At last weeks Deutsche Bank Championship, Phil Mickelson switched his putter to belly putter which a lot of pros have been using lately on Tour with a lot of success. Phil’s belly putter is a Sabertooth with a White Hot XG insert. It is 45 ¼ inches long with a lie of 70 degrees. It has also been custom weighted to put more weight behind the face. A tungsten weight insert was machined to bring the putter up to the required belly putter head weight. Last week, Phil worked with Austie Rollinson (Odyssey’s Principal Designer) here at the Odyssey Putting Lab in Carlsbad. There was one Sabertooth putter made for Phil. In fact, the putter that Phil is using was in the office of the main designer of the Sabertooth, Tom Hilton. Tom happens to be lefthanded, which is fortunate because there are not many lefthanded White Hot XG Sabertooth putters lying around these days. Prior to building Mickelson’s putter, Rollinson consulted Odyssey PGA Tour rep Johnny Thompson, who was responsible for developing the putter spec used successfully by Keegan Bradley. (Obviously, Mickelson has played with Bradley recently and during practice rounds this year and has seen the putter up […]

President Obama’s Custom Callaway Golf Wedge

June 21, 2011 / by / 0 Comment

Last Wednesday before the start of the U.S. Open, Roger Cleveland, Callaway’s Chief Golf Club Designer, built a few wedges for President Obama inside the Callaway tour trailer. The wedges were done at the request of Callaway Staff Professional Phil Mickelson, who was having dinner with the President on Wednesday night. Cleveland made 56, 60, and 64 degree wedges for the President, which Phil presented to him. The wedges were a half-inch over, with a multi compound grip (just like Phil’s grip). The tour reps in the Callaway trailer also made the president a 9.5-degree Diablo Octane Driver which Phil delivered to the President. I wonder if President Obama had any golf tips for Phil? www.callawaygolf.com
