2011 Bridgestone Tour B330

Coming to golf specialty store near you this Fall, is the updated 2011 Bridgestone Golf B330 series of Tour performance golf balls, featuring a proprietary new material used in the dual mantle construction. The 2011 version of the TOUR B330 and TOUR B330-S golf balls will offer high swing speed players more distance off the tee and the same great spin and feel that better golfers have become accustomed to with Bridgestone.

The 2011 versions of the Bridgestone Golf TOUR B330 and B330-S get a power boost as a result of Bridgestone’s new RD10 resin mantle layers. Bridgestone engineers created RD10 by subdividing the constituent of high repulsion, which increased the material density and resulted in higher initial velocity and an overall softening of the mantle layers.

RD10 Technology
The new RD10 material is currently in play on the PGA TOUR in the presence of Ryder Cup rookie Matt Kuchar. Kuchar is the first player on the Bridgestone Tour team to benefit from the new RD10 mantle layer material, currently using a TOUR prototype version of the new B330-S that has helped improve his driving distance while maintaining tremendous spin and feel on the greens. In addition, the new DUAL MANTLE design scientifically engineered to promote quicker restoration at impact, results in faster rebound and reduced spin at tour-level swing speeds. By further reducing the spin off of the longer clubs in the bag (driver, fairway metals, hybrids and long irons), the 2011 B330 series provides better wind piercing performance than ever before. In addition, Bridgestone’s modified Gradational Hardness Layering, from the center of the core to the outer mantle allows for the smoothest and most efficient power transition of any Tour ball, ever. This means booming distance and superior accuracy off of longer clubs.

New Redesigned Dimple Pattern
Like their predecessors, the new B330 and B330-S will feature a SOFT Urethane 330-dimple design seamless cover for the ultimate in piercing consistent flight, and tour-level spin and control on the greens. However, for 2011, the Tour B330-S dimple pattern will be redesigned to compensate for its softer cover and compression, and slightly higher driver spin that comes as a result. Bridgestone engineers have created a new shallower 330-dimple pattern with modified dimple spacing designed to reduce up-shoot spin, creating a flatter trajectory and wind performance consistent with that of the B330. In addition, the new dimple pattern fosters a shallower landing angle on tee-shots for more fairway roll.

Optimized for players with swing speeds greater than 105 mph, the 2011 TOUR B330 and TOUR B330-S golf balls feature a street price of $42.99 per dozen (suggested retail price of $56 per dozen) and will be available November 1st at golf specialty stores and green grass retailers nationwide.

Tour B330-RX

The new Tour B330-RX boasts a 7% softer core with a reformulated mantle that further reduces excess spin, resulting in straighter, more precise shots. With its Very SOFT gradational compression core, the ball is even more easily compressed for longer distance and great feel. The new core combined with B330-RX’s new Ionomer Inner Cover provides an increase in velocity and reduction in sidespin with the driver and long irons. As was the case with its award winning predecessor, the new B330-RX not only offers unparalleled distance performance, but the 330 Seamless Dimple-design urethane cover also ensures Tour caliber greenside spin and control, with a consistent trajectory players can count on.

Rounding out the TOUR performance SERIES designed for amateur swing speeds is the new 3-piece, urethane Tour B330-RXS – giving Bridgestone the softest multi-layer urethane series on the market. The new B330-RXS fits moderate-swing speed players – less than 105 mph – who demand a slightly softer feel and more spin control. The B330-RXS features a SOFT urethane cover for higher spin control and enhanced feel on and around the greens. In addition, the slightly softer core and mantle formulation help to generate reduced spin off the tee for great distance performance.

You’ve probably read about how important it is to get fitted for the right golf clubs, but it probably didn’t cross your mind, that the golf ball you play should match your swing speed. Most golfers, myself included, want a ball that’s going to add more distance, have great greenside spin, and feel. Until now, such features were only found in premium Tour-caliber golf balls aimed at golfer with fast swing speeds of 105 mph or greater.  This September Bridgestone Golf released their new Tour B330-RX golf ball, geared for golfers with moderate swing speeds (85-105 mph). I’ve been testing the new Bridgestone Tour B330-RX golf ball for last month and the results were quite amazing.

Off the tee

In my tests I compared the Bridgestone Tour B330-RX to a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX golf ball is a soft multilayer urethane ball featuring a large and soft gradational core for forgiveness and soft feel, mantle layer core for high repulsion and workability, and soft urethane cover with Seamless 330 dimple design. The reason for the softer core is to allow the ball to fully compress, especially for players with slower swing speeds, like myself.  This is going to do two things, one it will produce a shot that will launch higher and two, it will reduce the amount of spin off your driver. I produce a lot of sidespin on my dirves, so this feature was more than welcome. During the tests I noticed my drives were launching at an optimal launch angle and traveling much further than with my Pro V1. I was getting a gain of at least 5 – 8 yards on average with my driver using the Tour B330-RX golf ball.  The results with my irons was not as significant in terms of extra distance, but the ball was very easy to shape my shots with. The Tour B330-RX golf ball utilizes the same Soft Urethane Seamless dimple design, like its sister products Tour B330-S and Tour B330, so you get pinpoint accuracy with your irons and short game scoring shots.

Short Game

No where on the golf course is feel more important than in the short game. I’m very big on feel when attempting that greenside chip, 5 foot putt, or 30 yard approach shot. I want my golf ball to feel responsive and stop on a dime when it hits the green.  The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX does not disappoint when it comes to the short game and scoring shots. The Soft Urethane Seamless dimple design cover gives the Tour B330-RX, that premium enhanced feel in and around the green that I desire. When it came to putting the Tour B330-RX was easy to line up with its pronounced aim line and had a nice feel.  When it came to pitch shots and chips, the Bridgestone Tour 330-RX provided the high spin and control that you want from a premium golf ball. My shots would stop on a dime when they hit the green, very similar to what you get with Titleist Pro V1. 

Overall the Bridgestone Tour 330-RX is an excellent golf ball that provides Tour-Caliber performance for golfers with slower swing speeds who want long driving distance off the tee with great spin and control in the short game.
